The first time I tasted a Snickerdoodle cookie was one day I was at my friend’s house and she asked me if I want a Snickerdoodle.

I said what now?

At first I thought she was speaking a different language, but when she handed a cookie to me, I didn’t need any convincing.

It was delicious.

From that day on, I discovered a new favorite cookie of mine…. Snickerdoodle.

This is the best and easy Snickerdoodle Recipe ever.

Why are Snickerdoodles called Snickerdoodles?

A lot of people wonder where the name Snickerdoodle came from.

It is unclear where it origin from.

However, the name Snickerdoodle is a mixture of German and Dutch.

The name comes from a German word Schnecke Knodel which means snail shape dumplings.

Some also say that the name snicker comes from a Dutch word called snekrad or a German word schnecke.

Again, both are described as a snail like shape.

Can I freeze these Snickerdoodle Cookies?

Yes, you can freeze the snickerdoodles cookie raw dough balls.

To do so, first roll the dough into small balls and put them on a cookie sheet.

Put then into the freezer for about 2 hours, so they don’t stick together when frozen.

Then place each ball into a freezer friendly bag for about 3 months.

When you are ready to bake them, thaw them overnight in the refrigerator.

Roll each ball into the cinnamon sugar coating and bake as directed in the recipe.

What the difference between Snickerdoodle Cookies and Sugar Cookies?

I know, both cookies are made with the flour, butter, eggs, vanilla extract and sugar.

But there are two most important differences between a Snickerdoodle Cookies and Sugar Cookies.

The first one is that Cream of Tartar is added to give that tangy flavor and chewy texture.

The second one is that each ball is rolled in a cinnamon sugar coating which give it that cinnamon flavor in each bite.

Why do I need cream of tartar in Snickerdoodle Cookies?

You need cream of tartar in your Snickerdoodle Cookies to give you that tangy taste and chewy texture in each cookie.

The combination of the cream of tartar and baking soda becomes the leaving agent for the cookies.

Both helps to rise while it bakes and then goes down as it cools.

Some like the taste cream of tartar gives, some don’t.

Can you make Snickerdoodle Cookies without Cream of Tartar?

Yes you can make Snickerdoodle Cookies without Cream of Tartar.

To make Snickerdoodle Cookies without cream of tartar is to replace it and the baking soda with about 2 teaspoon baking powder for this recipe.

They will still taste delicious without that tangy taste after each bite, if you are not a big fan of cream of tartar.

How to make these easy Snickerdoodle Cookies?

Firstly, mix the sugar and cinnamon evenly to make the coating and set aside. Also, combine all the dry ingredients and whisk together.

Secondly, cream both types of sugar and butter. Add the eggs (one at a time) and vanilla extract and mix together.

Thirdly, add the dry ingredients to the creamed sugar and mix, until evenly combined. Cover and allow the dough to chill for about 1 hour.
