Jamaican Banana Fritters

Jamaican Banana Fritters

Jamaican Banana Fritters is a quick and easy breakfast option when you are craving for something sweet and tasty.

Plus, another great way to use up those overripe bananas from going spoil.

Trying to think of another way to use up those bananas that starts to turn black on your counter top, then this is the recipe you can try.

Pin for later.

These Jamaican Banana Fritters was a favorite of mine when I was a child, because it was the sweetness that I enjoyed the most.

I looked forward to them whenever my mother would make these for breakfast.

Let’s say it was my Saturday mornings sweet treat.

Your kids will surely enjoy these as much as my kids always do.

Another type of fritter that you can also check out is my Saltfish Fritters, which is a meal all by itself.

More Bananas, even better

I always use milk in my Banana Fritters from ever since.

However, for others the mashed bananas is all the wet ingredients they use in the mixture.

For some folks who don’t want to use any milk (no dairy), then you can double the ripe bananas to eliminate the milk.

So that will be about 6 mashed bananas instead of the 3 in the recipe below.

How to make Jamaican Banana Fritters

The preparation time takes about 5 to 10 minutes.

Yep, that’s how quick and easy this recipe is.

The first thing to do is to mash the bananas in a bowl. Add the vanilla and brown sugar and mix. Set aside for later.

Secondly, whisk the dry ingredients together: flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg.

Thirdly, slowly pour the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients. Mix together. Then add the milk and continue mixing.

Finally, heat the oil and carefully drop spoonfuls of the mixture in the hot oil. Once bubbles start to create, turn over and fry until golden brown. Let them drain off on paper towel. Serve warm and enjoy.

  • 1/4 cup Milk
  • 1 cup All Purpose Flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon Nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, mashed the ripe bananas with a fork. Add the vanilla extract and brown sugar and mix together.
  2. Whisk together the flour, nutmeg, cinnamon, baking powder and salt in another bowl.
  3. Pour the flour mixture in the banana mixture and mix together. Add the milk and continue mixing.
  4. Pour some oil in a large skillet, but not too much or else the fritters will soak up too much oil when frying. Heat the oil over medium heat. Carefully drop spoonful of the banana batter into the hot oil. Flip each fritter, once bubbles appear on the top and the bottom of the fritter is golden brown. Once the first batch is finished, place them on a paper towel to drain the oil.
  5. Repeat the process, until all the banana batter is finished.
  6. Serve warm and enjoy.

Notes:

  • If you don’t want to use any milk in this recipe, then double the about of bananas.
  • Don’t use too much oil or else the fritters will soak up too much oil.
  • Make sure the oil is very hot before adding the batter for each fritter.

I had exactly 3 bananas that was going “bad” I did not want to throw them away and I did not want to make a banana bread so I decided to check your website and came upon banana fritters… yummy. I have made banana fritters before but not like this. Needless to say I would make it no other way. I follow your recipe as is and it was delicious. Thank you for sharing.
