Jamaican Carrot Juice

Jamaican Carrot Juice

Jamaican Carrot Juice is a creamy, smooth and rich drink, that is mostly made on a Sunday in Jamaica.

I remember my mother making Jamaican Carrot Juice practically every other Sunday because that’s when she could only afford to go to the market to get carrots.

This Jamaican Carrot Juice or some call it Carrot Punch is has some weight to it, so be careful not to drink too much of it before eating your dinner or lunch.

However, it’s not too thick like a smoothie, just slightly thick and hat’s why some refer to it as Carrot Punch.

How to prepare the carrots?

There are two ways of making Jamaican Carrot Juice, that I have learnt of while growing up.

I have only done it one way and don’t think I will try it the other way because I am so hooked on the way I have been doing it all my life.

The first option is to wash, peel and chop the carrots.

Add the chopped carrots in a food processor or you can grater the whole carrot with all the 5 cups of water to it and strain it to get the juice.

Then add your flavorings, Guinness and sweet condensed milk.

Cooked carrots in a pot.

Another option is to wash, peel and cook the carrots.

After the carrots are cooked, put the cool carrots in a blender with the water it was cooked in and puree it.

Add the flavorings, Guinness and sweet condensed milk.

I have never done it with the first option, but I didn’t want to just give you the only way I have done it.

I love giving options and don’t like to force my way on others.

Plus, I believe that there is no need to discard any part of the carrots.

Carrots are healthy and have a good source of antioxidants, beta-carotene, vitamin k and plenty more health benefits.

I want to consume all of the carrots in a juice form, so that’s why I stick with the method of cooking the carrots first, instead of using a grater or putting it in a food processor.

Anyway you choose to do it, whether you cook the carrots or use a grater (or a food processor), it’s your choice.

All the ingredients to make the Jamaican Carrot Juice except for the cooked carrots.

How to make Jamaican Carrot Juice

Please don’t cook the carrots until it is soft, but just about tender to be pureed.

From turning on the heat to turning off the heat, it was about 30 minutes.

Adding an entire bottle of Guinness or Dragon Stout and or Bailey’s Rum Cream, it’s up to you.

I am not here to encourage alcohol drinking.

But in my Jamaican culture, Carrot Juice isn’t done making without some alcohol in it.

Even if its a teaspoon…lol.

Pin for later.

So a bottle of Guinness or a Dragon Stout is added to the pureed carrots or strained carrot juice and then some Rum Cream to give it a creamier texture.

The alcohol just gives it an extra kick.

You can make it without any form of alcohol at all and that’s why I said they are optional.

We all know that Guinness has a dark color to it.

So when you add the Guinness to the carrot mixture, it gives it a darker color and no longer has the carrot orange looking color.

You can see it from the finish product in the picture below.

Add the nutmeg and vanilla extract to add more flavor.

Sweeten with the condensed sweet milk.

I hope you give this Jamaican Carrot Juice a try.

It is so creamy and flavorful.

You will fall in love with it.

Let me know what you think about it.

Hi Chan, The carrot juice can stay in the refrigerator for about 5 to 7 days. Give it a good stir before serving it.

Hi Jenean, Yes some usually just blend the carrot itself and then strain it with a fine mesh strainer. But I am glad you are still willing to try this method. I hope you will like it too. Thanks much. Appreciate the support.
